WHAT TO EXPECT
While supervision is an important step in your career, it also presents an opportunity to learn, be curious, exercise free speech, and create a space for therapists to express their true selves, including their cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Often, when we begin working with clients, we assume we can be flexible, adjust our own values, and prioritize our clients 100%. In reality, we are all human and need support in understanding how to best care for ourselves mentally and educationally. This is crucial in order to provide the best services during our sessions. Recognizing our areas of need is a vital first step. I am more than happy to discuss this topic and share strategies that can be implemented during sessions, especially when working with clients whose backgrounds differ significantly from our own.
